What Was Your First…?
Medical Romance
By: Emily Carrington
I had a crush on a doctor (a professor, not an M.D.) when I was in college. Does that count as a medical romance?
Nope. But reading about doctors, nurses, surgeons, and in some fantasy realms, healers and “medtechs” (my term for the doctors in my SearchLight universe) certainly count, especially if the medical professional/medicine person/etc. is one of the main characters.
I’d never read a medical romance before deciding to write one Lady Troubles, a box set about a trans, M2F werewolf and a human woman). However, I’d fantasized about doctors I read about in others’ books for years. My favorite was a medical corpsman named Jay Lopez, from the Suzanne Brockmann Troubleshooters and SEAL Team 16 books. I don’t know if Jay ever got his own book, but I keep a special place in my heart for medical professionals who put their mental and physical health on the line on a regular basis.
There’s just something about medical personnel, isn’t there? I mean, their real-world counterparts aren’t all amazing and wonderful, but so many are. Why else would there be so many great stories written about those in this profession?
Here are my books about medtechs and veterinarians.
Lady Troubles: three stories in one volume; “straight” human woman, terrified of werewolves, finds herself falling for a transgender wolf. And in a world where lovemaking equals instant mating, there’s nothing she can do about it…right?
